Product FAQ's
Have a question about the PowerMaxx? Check out some of our FAQ's to see if it's addressed here.
Where Is The PowerMaxx Setup?
The PowerMaxx box is positioned on the ground, on the left side of the pitcher (first base side). It should never be placed on the right side regardless of whether the pitcher is right-handed or left-handed.
Purpose For Alignment
The front landing foot aligns with the lower laser. Take 2 or 3 practice throws from the mound/pitchers plate ( rubber) to the receiver, visually establishing where his footstrike lands. Mark, mentally or with a small object, (tape, mark of some sort,) and align the lower laser of the PowerMaxx right on the mark. You now have established foot strike. The pitcher should always land somewhere on the mark.
Adjusting The PowerMaxx For Left Handed Pitchers
NOTE: Setting up for a left handed pitcher is identical to the right handed pitcher including the location of the PowerMaxx box except that the upper laser is pointed about 3 inches below the left shoulder of the pitcher.
What To Do Once The PowerMaxx Is Aligned Properly
Make sure the power button is turned on cycle through which takes approximately 30 seconds. When the screen becomes blank, it indicates that the PowerMaxx is ready and armed to read the pitcher’s motion.
When the pitcher delivers the ball towards the home plate, a reading will appear on the display after each pitch. A seven (7 second) delay is required for the PowerMaxx to reset between pitches which should allow plenty of time for the receiver to throw the ball back to the pitcher and prepare for the next pitch.
Steps To Setup The PowerMaxx
STEPS TO SETUP THE POWERMAXX:
- Swing open the metal door and place the PowerMaxx on the ground approximately 5 ½ feet to 6 feet away from the pitcher on the first base side of the pitchers mound.
- Determine the location where the pitcher ’ s front foot lands down slope on the ground during the pitching motion and mark this spot.
- Turn on the PowerMaxx using the switch on the front of the box marked ON.
- Turn on the PowerMaxx SETUP mode by switching on the SETUP switch located on the front of the box. This will turn on the lasers to start the setup process.
FOOT LASER ADJUSTMENT (FOR BOTH RIGHT HANDED AND LEFT HANDED PITCHERS)
- Turn the FOOT knob to raise or lower the Foot laser so that it points at the foot landing spot marked in Step 1 above.
BODY LASER ADJUSTMENT FOR THE RIGHT HANDED PITCHER
- When the pitcher stands on the foot landing mark from Step 1 above, the upper laser should point at the left elbow of the pitcher.
BODY LASER ADJUSTMENT FOR THE LEFT HANDED PITCHER
- When the pitcher stands on the foot landing mark from Step 1 above, the upper laser should point 3 inches above the left elbow of the pitcher.
FINAL STEPS BEFORE START OF PRACTICE
- Turn off the PowerMaxx SETUP switch. Your PowerMaxx box is now setup.
- If sound alerts are desired, turn on the SOUND switch.
- The PowerMaxx is ready for use when the digital display has completed it setup cycle (the dash stops moving around the display).
- Throw a pitch and PowerMaxx will display a numeric value.
- If SOUND is turned on, a two tone sound will play after the pitch.
- Wait at least seven seconds between each pitch to allow the PowerMaxx to reset.
- Do not over crank the scroll wheels.
Setup For Softball Players
The setup for a softball pitcher is exactly the same except for the upper laser/sensor, upper laser should point at the left hip of the softball pitcher.
Troubleshooting The PowerMaxx
Having an issue with your PowerMaxx unit? See this FAQ for more information.
Display Does Not Light Up When The Power Switch Is Turned On
- Check whether the ON/OFF switch is in the on position
- Check that the batteries are charged
PowerMaxx Does Not Display A Number After The Pitcher Throws
Check that PowerMaxx is properly positioned on the ground:
- The PowerMaxx should be positioned on the ground, 5 ½ feet to 6 feet from the pitcher on the left side of the mound (first base side).
Check location and distance from Foot Strike Mark
- Determine whether the FOOT sensor is pointing where the pitcher’s foot strikes on the downward slope of the pitcher’s mound.
Make sure that the PowerMaxx unit is placed 5 ½ feet to 6 feet away from the pitcher ’s foot strike location during the pitching action.
Check for proper laser/sensor alignment:
- Determine where the pitcher ’s foot strike occurs on the downward slope of the pitcher ’s mound and mark that spot (the Foot Strike Mark ).
- Adjust the lower laser knob to point the laser so the laser strikes the sole of the pitchers shoe.
- Adjust the Upper laser to point at the left arm of the pitcher when standing on the Foot Strike Mark according to the set up instructions (right handed vs. left handed pitchers).
- Make sure to turn off the SETUP switch after the laser positions have been properly adjusted correctly according to setup instructions provided.
- Adjust the Lower laser knob to point the laser so the laser strikes the sole of the pitcher's shoe.
- Warning, do not look directly at the lasers.
Check to confirm that the PowerMaxx is level on the ground
- Adjust the feet as needed to level the PowerMaxx using the leveling bubble provided on the handle of the PowerMaxx.
- Make sure that the PowerMaxx lasers are properly adjusted according to set up instructions provided.
Check the Air Temperature
If the ambient temperature is above 90 degrees F, especially with high humidity, the PowerMaxx may not perform accurately.
If the PowerMaxx is set on blacktop, concrete, artificial turf or other hard surfaces and the ambient temperature is above 90 degrees F, the PowerMaxx may not perform accurately.
PowerMaxx performs similar to a computer, and many electronic devices do not perform in high temperatures.
Check the Weather
PowerMaxx is not designed to perform under wet weather conditions (rain, mist or snow).
PowerMaxx is an electronic device similar to your laptop, tablet and mobile phone. It should be protected from the weather in the same manner.
After The Pitch, There Are Flashing Dashes On The Bottom Of The Display
- Flashing dashes on the bottom of the display indicates that the lower sensor was activated and the upper sensor was not within the allowed activation time.
- This happens when there are serious timing issues and if it happens consistently, the pitcher should engage with a coach.
After The Pitch, There Are Flashing Dashes On The Top Of The Display
- Flashing dashes on the top of the display indicates the upper sensor activated first, which is out of the correct pitch sequence. This may also be indicated by a one second sound, if the SOUND switch is on
- This happens when there are serious timing issues and if it happens consistently, the pitcher should engage with a coach.
After The Pitch, There Are No Numbers On The Display
Sometimes the PowerMaxx device will not display a reading because of the pitcher’s clothing where ambient temperature is closer to body temperature.
Jeans, boots, shoes, heavy sweatshirts, and jackets may prevent readings or result in inconsistent readings. For consistent readings, normal baseball ware is best.
Wearing jeans, boots, shoes, heavy sweatshirts, heavy jackets, etc. may result in a miss read or no reading at all. Normal workout attire and normal baseball attire are best suited for optimum accuracy of the PowerMaxx.
